Leasing on an architecturally striking new office development has been launched by developer Rize Alliance, which unveiled renderings of the angular building June 18.
The 200,000-square-foot, 13-storey building is named The Onyx, due to its “translucent, shimmering black exterior,†which the Rize website says “appears in great contrast to its historic neighbour,†the Pacific Central Station.
Colliers International is the commercial real estate brokerage marketing the project, which is hoped to anchor the transformation of the area around Main Street and Terminal Avenue as a new business hub.
Marco DiPaolo, executive vice-president with Colliers International in Vancouver, said, “This building marks the evolution of The Terminal District into a hub for visionary businesses and professionals. With its central location, vibrant atmosphere and proximity to transit, The Onyx will provide companies and employees an ideal setting to maximize productivity and do their most creative, innovative work, while establishing themselves in what will surely be Vancouver’s next ‘it’ neighbourhood.â€
The Rize website states, “The Onyx is very well positioned as a connector between a number of well-established neighbourhoods such as Chinatown, Strathcona and Mount Pleasant. It is also a premium site on the edge of two burgeoning neighbourhoods, False Creek Flats to the East and the final phase of the False Creek Waterfront to the West. Its convenience and vibrancy make it feel like an extension of Downtown; its livability and wise planning for the future make it feel visionary on a global scale.â€
Construction of The Onyx is expected to begin in early 2019, with the building ready for occupancy in summer 2021.
