Plans for a 60-storey residential tower, which, if approved, would be among the tallest buildings in Vancouver, are up for inspection at an open house tonight, May 28.
The development aims to meet Passive House energy-efficiency standards. The building would reach 555.5 feet and is proposed for 1059 to 1075 Nelson St. near Thurlow Street, according to the rezoning application. The site is close to the 鈥淏utterfly鈥� luxury condo tower under construction at 969 Burrard St. behind First Baptist Church.
The building that's envisioned for Nelson Street features a wavy shape with a curvy column of greenery down its centre.
Its design, was inspired by the peninsula, the inlet and green forests.
It鈥檚 being considered under the West End Community Plan, Rezoning Policy for the West End, and the General Policy for Higher Buildings. All proposals that meet the criteria for higher buildings must undergo an enhanced review by the Urban Design Panel, which is augmented by the addition of two local architects and two international design experts.
Most recently, Pinnacle International鈥檚 proposal to build a mixed-use 54-storey, 535-foot-tall tower at 601 Beach Cres. at the north end of Granville Street Bridge .
The Nelson Street project would produce 485 residential units, including 113 social housing units, 49 market rental units and 323 market condo units.
The open house runs from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver, 845 Burrard St., in the Salon Pommard Room.
