Re: "School board bureaucracy bloated and unnecessary," Feb. 29.
May I raise a small voice in defense of the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»school bureaucracy, in response to Mark Hasiuk's blistering tirade? But first, I must stifle a yawn as I point out that the numbers Mr. Hasiuk supplied show that while student enrollment has dropped 3.7 per cent since 2000, the budget has increased 2.62 per cent a year, near the rate of inflation.
Agreed, we should keep a close eye on the budget, but things don't seem out of control. Meanwhile, my children are getting first-rate educations in the public system and I am pleased with the teachers and bureaucracy making it possible. Mr. Hasiuk's call to fire the lot is an extremist
position, which I doubt even he takes seriously.
