RANTS AND RAVES: A customer service employee dreams of the perfect come-back

Re: Youve been warned, by Fed Up ( Rants, Dec.

Re: Youve been warned, by Fed Up (): In this day and age when so many people are either allergic to other people or are ready to punch another person in the face just for smiling at them, its rather sad to see customers taking it out on customer service employees. While most retail and restaurant employees are discouraged from pre-judging a patron until we can assess their needs and determine what their intentions are, its part of our job to offer assistance and to be friendly even when the patrons are not.You cant imagine how many times Ive wanted to say, F-you asshole and get your f-ing ass out my store before I kick you out when I encountered a rude and condescendingcustomer. However, retail and restaurant employees cant because we can be fired for any reason, sometime on the whim of a nastybully-boss which means we have to be nice to all customers evenif some of them deserve a good slap in the face. So, if and when you chooseto walk into a businessplease try to be as nice as you can and leave your attitude outside becausemost customer service employeeswork hard forunliveblewages with no benefits and wedont have a choice in how wed like totreat the customers(unless we win the lotto, so that some of us can finallycan drop our pantsand yell, kiss meright inthe crack, you fatugly... as we walk out and flip the middle finger to the bullies when we walk out the door.)

To Fed Up: You actually had clerks approach you at a store instead of having to search in vain for one to attend to you, especially in department stores? Lucky you! As for servers in restaurants asking how everything is, maybe more than once throughout one course is too much, but at each course it is out of concern that you are happy with what you ordered and, if not, to be able to rectify it without delay. If they dont then its the customer who usually complains that the service was inattentive. So maybe if you readjust your attitude a bit you might find yourself less irritated by the good intentions of those in a service position.

Just watching on the news about protests by low-income housing activists at the new Burns Building microlofts. My questions is, why would these people choose to live downtown? Living downtown is expensive, everybody knows that. Duh. I live downtown but I have a roomate; I wouldnt be able to afford to live here by myself.I used to live in East Vancouver, a small basement apartment for $350 per month. Thats where these people should probably go, too.

I was just out walking in the night with a friend who belongs to a certain church. Theyre all very excited because for a little while now theres been a new star in the sky, and theyve been talking about it as an omen that some momentous occasion is about to happen. I said, Well, if there was a new star wouldnt astronomers know about it? She said, Its right there for everyone to see but no ones calling it the Christmas star. She pointed up at the sky and there it was the brightest star in the sky. You can see it every night. Its the international space station. Maybe the space station could flash or sparkle, maybe add a bit of colour this time of year.

Its a disingenuous campaign to blame the Occupy people and put a pricetag of a million dollars on how much theyve cost the paranoia of the City of Vancouver. Your inability to differentiate between black-flag anarchists and green pacifists, thats cost you a million dollars. The cops on the streets actually knew the difference and realized how ludicrous it was to have all those officers out there when basically they were confronting what amounts to 21st century hippies. This wonderful group of kids have spurred the morals and conscience of North Americans. All around the world people are waking to the fact that yes there are injustices, and yes they do have to be addressed. What theyve done is embarrass you all and made the media look at the fact theyre only reporting on new hair styles and whos sleeping with whose wife or husband or boyfriend. No no. Its not fair to carry on these campaigns of disinformation and absurdity. These kids are much better informed than you think they are.

The debate about burqas is about whether a woman has a right to wear a headscarf. Even if it is a burqa, what business is it yours? Its her choice, or his if he happens to be transgendered or a transvestite. I can see the thing about covering their face when wanting facial identification for creating a security system.
