Um, I think that might have been Jupiter
Re: Close encounter with a Christmas star, Dec. 29 in Rants. If the star was in the southwest area after the sun went down between four and six, it could have been Venus if it was really low in the sky. If it was higher in the sky it was Jupiter. The international space station travels across the sky quite quickly. It has been up there and very bright the past few nights but it doesnt stand still. The Christmas star was probably Jupiter because it was high up in the sky.

Transit tirade
I want to thank the bus drivers of the #16 and #20 for going sailing past me and leaving me standing there on Hastings Street. I just finished my work day and Id like to get home safely on a transit system that Im paying $2.50 per ticket to ride a few blocks. And you guys cant even stop at a designated stop to pick up a passenger? Whats your problem? World-class city? I just wished you had a world-class transit system. Transit is an absolute shame and during the holidays particularly, you wait 20-30 minutes before you even see the bloody busses half the time. Get your heads out of your asses. If your executives had to ride the busses, maybe they would plan the system better. It should say in their contract that they have to go to and from work on the bus every day like us ordinary citizens, then maybe they would design a system that works. Go to Montreal or London, England or some other world-class city and see what an efficient system that gets people to and from work without a lot of stress actually looks like.

Empty vessels
Heres another example that shows the people who run TransLink do not have any clue what they are doing: Boxing Day. Not an official holiday but not many people were working. TransLink runs all of the rush-hour buses, most of them empty. Most days youre jam-packed like sardines. Why dont they mix and match and change things around or just quit their jobs. Or please fire them.

Burning red
Does anyone live near Denman and Georgia? Have you noticed how many people are doing speeds in excess of 50, possibly even 70km/h ? The government placed red light cameras there and Ive stood at that corner and watched people speed through.

Ticked off from T.O.
Re: Robert Clarks mantra is know your food, Dec. 29. Having worked in both Toronto and Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»in the food industry (and having worked in top rated restaurants in both including with so-called Toronto celebrity chefs and several of Clarkes disciples in Vancouver) I find the [article] hilarious. The lifestyle in Toronto is about going out to eat, drink and have fun. You can actually go out for dinner at 11pm and go into a full room thats still open for several more hours. Servers and bartenders here have so much attitude I want to smack them. In Toronto, being kind and helpful and smiling is the rule, not the exception, as it is here. Actually serving guests, contributing to their fun and being professional are part of the job. Servers make excellent money and dont have to give the kitchen a nine-per-cent tip out to supplement their crappy wages. Instead, there is a lot of buying drinks at the end of a busy night and bringing the guys donuts or coffees at the beginning of the shift. Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»is about the diner, not the chef? In Toronto, most chefs will put tomato sauce on their spaghetti carbonara if a guest really wants it. In Vancouver, guests are to be ashamed if they dare suggest such a thing! In Toronto, if you sit at the bar and order a mojito, you get one provided the bar has the ingredients. In Vancouver, some gruff hipster bar chef tells you that you dont want a mojito but you do want his muddled berry and bourbon martini. But the biggest difference between the two is Toronto loves Vancouver. We know nothing about this supposed rivalry. Ask chefs there whove worked out here and they rave about the commitment to local ingredients and the beautiful fish and the pinot gris. The average Toronto citizen thinks of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»as one of the most beautiful places on earth. And it is. Its too bad about its inhabitants. I am so happy to be moving home where I will talk about how amazing it was to live in such a beautiful place and not give another thought to Vancouvers crazy Napoleon complex.
