Oil shipments benefit Canadians

To the editor:

Robertson says we've seen a 6 per cent drop in fuel sales since 1999. Where is he measuring this? If it's within the city limits of Vancouver, it's meaningless. If it's the GVRD, it's better, but there are other factors that have nothing to do with going green. The higher costs of running a car, including the carbon tax, have forced some people to stop driving, car manufacturers are selling smaller vehicles that are much more fuel efficient, and then there's the convenience of the Canada Line. You could throw in the high rate of unemployment too, if you are broke, a bicycle isn't a bad option. I don't think people are thinking green at all, if they were, why do they travel by air so much? Why do so many go to Canuck games in Phoenix and L.A.?

Also, Robertson keeps talking about Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»taking all these risks and getting no benefits from the oil shipments. Firstly, there are no risks, Burrard Inlet is an ice free, protected harbour, there is no chance of a mishap. Second, Canada benefits and we are Canadian.
