Re: "No room at the inn for minister's open door policy," Dec. 23.

I was appalled that the Courier, in its preChristmas edition, chose to lead the opinion page with Allen Garr's one-sided view of the work of the First United Church and its ministers. I understand that in his role as a political commentator Mr. Garr chooses to be provocative. How quick he is to focus on negativity. However, he makes no mention of the love, care, compassion and acceptance that is shown in this low barrier, inclusive refuge by those who make the Downtown Eastside their ministry. The spirit of this holy season would have been better served by an editorial lauding those who attempt to comfort the most vulnerable and marginalized souls in our world.

Anne Goldman,
