To the editor:
Thank you Sandra Thomas for finally writing something about another species other than our very invasive one who lives in the corner of the world we call Vancouver. How ironic that birds of prey and a community garden are vying for the same small piece of greenspace. And how curious that Mike Mackintosh, a former park board wildlife technician, says: "Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»still has lots of green areas that are left intact" and Richard Wozny, who watches the birds regularly, prefers the precautionary principle and wants this precious section of wild land left alone. I would agree with Wozny-there aren't enough wild spaces left in this city and we should stop assuming that wildlife will just adapt to our primarily organized, paved over and landscaped human environment. The value of sharing our home with other species is priceless. Leave the unkempt wild places alone for a change and make this a truly "Green City," which honours and welcomes the creatures who used to be massively prolific in the Lower Mainland and now have to cling to a few wild corners.
