Re: "Social housing tenant without heat for two years," Jan. 11.
The assertion the article makes that a tenant resided in a unit without heat is simply incorrect. In fact, B.C. Housing staff have since visited the suite in question and confirmed with the tenant that all utilities are in working order. Further, as part of our energy retrofit measures, all thermostats and zone valves in each apartment were checked last year and replaced as needed. Our records indicate that both were replaced in the tenant's apartment at that time.
Further, we have confirmed with the onsite Building Manager Supervisor at Steeves Manor that no complaints or concerns were brought forward by any tenant regarding heating issues at any time within the past two years. If there had been a complaint made, we would have made every effort to look into the situation and make any changes necessary.
We certainly acknowledge the construction has been disruptive, however, we have been able to proceed with the renovation without displacing any tenants or impacting major utilities-such as heating-which is uncommon for a project of this magnitude. The project is close to achieving substantial completion-it is approximately 95 per cent complete.
I am confident saying that overall, most of the occupants are thrilled with the improvements despite construction disruptions, and the major upgrades to the interior suites, common areas and exterior will make Steeves Manor a place tenants will proudly call home.
