To the editor:
On discussing former city planner Brent Toderian, Mr Garr says, "By the time Toderian turned up, [Mayor Sullivan's] EcoDensity was a done deal." Hardly. The concept was launched, but it was Mr. Toderian who took it through two years of public process, 100 public meetings, over 1,000 members of the public participating, three drafts of the report, and 144 speakers to council over seven nights of public meetings.
The result was a robust policy, which is alive and well today.
After all, what is there to dislike: Greenest building standards in North America, making environmental considerations crucial to land use decisions, higher buildings along arterials, district energy or laneway housing?
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»has always been a leader in land use decisions. EcoDensity keeps us there. Mr. Toderian did the tough but effective job in taking it from concept to reality.
