Re: "Parent group to get less money for school playground," April 20.

The frustration and lack of clarity around provincial funding for playground replacement is troubling and as your article points out is creating many issues for both parent advisory councils (PACs) and school boards. The lack of consistent policies, a lottery system one year followed by the latest reimbursement scheme, does not allow for long-term planning of playground up-grades or provide PACs consistent guidelines from which to plan their fundraising efforts. Provincial funding for school playgrounds needs to be both adequate and predictable, distribution of funds are best left at the local level where needs are understood. Playgrounds are where our kids get exercise, get a break from their studies and, above all, have fun. Proper predictable funding is in everyone's best interest.
