Re: "Bike helmets don't reduce injuries," Letters, Oct. 5.
The heading of one of your letters reads "Bike helmets don't reduce injuries" in big bold letters. Are you joking? First of all, the letter was discussing the removal of medical coverage for non-helmet users.
But in the meantime to put some of this discussion to rest, can you please ask someone who works in the medical field if this is anything close to a valid statement because I can't imagine they would agree. Also can you ask anyone who has ever had a head injury if they would then reenter into a sport such as cycling without a helmet. Head injuries are not a joke; they change your life drastically. Anything you can do to prevent the possibility of one is a very good idea.
Investing in a good helmet and then wearing it while cycling is the minimum a cyclist can do to help themselves, their loved ones and the potential cost on the medical system if they are injured. This is the non-starter.
