Re: "Little Mountain's revised plan includes canals, shops," Feb. 1.

I just had to laugh when I read architect James Cheng's comments that "Most of these single-family houses [in the area] are owned by retired people and retired people don't get out" and "If you go down to Main Street and look at all the eateries, all are for young people, so the merchants are having a hard time because there's not enough young people in the area."

Has Mr. Cheng ever spent time in the area?

If he did, he'd realize that Main Street is a vibrant area made up of a healthy mix of families, young adults, and yes, retirees who are, for the most part, active in the community. If Mr. Cheng were to walk down Main Street on any night of the week he would see that the majority of restaurants are full, not just with "young people" but folks of all ages. I'm not sure where he got his statistics from, but they sure don't match what I know of my neighbourhood and are an insult to retirees, too.
