Re: "Bite fight," Feb. 3.

The VPD dog squad responded to our home just a couple of blocks from the Waldorf where the man in your article smashed out bus windows. In our case, a man was trying to steal our pipes and electrical wire from the basement crawl space. The dog squad arrived and the man was arrested.

On his person, he had two blades, a saw, bolt cutters and a crack pipe. He was arrested without a struggle as the man responded to commands to get down on the ground. I think he would have run if not for the dog barking at him. The dog allowed for an arrest where everyone was safe.

In the case of the man who smashed out a number of windows with his skateboard, fled the scene, and then did not stop when asked to by the police, I think the use of force was reasonable. The man had proven himself to be violent in the extreme and then fled the scene of his crime.

What more do police need to stop someone with a dog or by whatever use of force is reasonable. He was violent, destroyed public property and then fled. Why does this man think the world owes him something. You break the law, you might get hurt when you flee the police.
