Head injury mocking no laughing matter

To the editor: Re: "Head's Up," Kudos & Kvetches, Dec. 7. I usually enjoy topical jabs at politicians, especially when the jabs are funny; but "Head's Up" was neither topical nor funny.

Re: "Head's Up," Kudos & Kvetches, Dec. 7. I usually enjoy topical jabs at politicians, especially when the jabs are funny; but "Head's Up" was neither topical nor funny. The author attempts to make it appear as if he's mocking councillors Ball and Stevenson and Mayor Robertson when in reality the author is mocking the disabled. Head injuries often result in hospitalization and can also cause permanent disability. Rehabilitation after an injury is not a simple or easy process. Physiotherapy is a grueling process that takes months if not years. It can be difficult to keep patients motivated during the physiotherapy process because the work is so gruelling and excruciating. As a society, we should be encouraging others to overcome adversity; we should not be sending a message that we will mock them for overcoming adversity. By printing "Heads Up" in your paper, you are contributing to the barriers that disabled individuals face on a daily basis. "Heads Up" is an insult to the disabled community.
