Dictators shouldn't dictate to us

Re: "Chinese consulate urged mayor to boycott show," Dec. 28.

We always knew these things took place behind closed doors but here it is-proof in the open. This letter by the consulate is disturbing and I am concerned our elected leaders are being influenced by anyone other than the Canadians who put them in office. The Chinese consulate has its own agenda and is only interested in furthering the interests of the Communist dictatorship it represents. Shame on the consulate for issuing the demand and shame on our leaders if they bowed to the wishes of a dictatorship that persecutes its own people for exercising basic rights. When anyone attacks the rights of any person or group, they're undermining the values our country holds dear.
