Re: "Heritage should be low VSB priority," Letters, Nov. 25.
I totally disagree with the letter by Bruce Levens. While there is no question the primary objective of the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»School Board is the education of its students, and this is where the school board's limited funds should be targeted, I also feel that this in no way absolves the school board of it responsibilities to be careful custodians of Vancouver's heritage school buildings.
Any great society respects the foundations from where it began and makes a point of passing those founding values onto its subsequent generations. How often have I heard educators say they teach not only academic disciplines, but also social values. Think what type of values the VSB would be demonstrating to its students if it demolished every inconvenient heritage structure.
If everyone had the same simplistic values as Mr. Levens, there would be no Greek Parthenon, no Taj Mahal, or Notre Dame Cathedral.
