Re: "West End residents rally against rezoning," July 22.
I am amazed the city is still considering the Beach Towers rezoning application under the STIR program. In passing STIR, council instructed staff to "seek affordability in projects submitted for STIR incentives through finishing, size, location and other design considerations." The Beach Towers development will be sited on one of the most desirable waterfront locations in the country. It will be LEED-certified, concrete construction. Some units will have private rooftop decks, and all units will have access to a private exercise facility and swimming pool. These are the hallmarks of luxury, not affordability.
