Snowfall warning now in effect for Vancouver

Environment Canada has officially issued a snowfall warning for Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­as a productive system moves cross the Lower Mainland.

Now, the department predicts that snowfall with total amounts of 10 to 15 cm is expectedÌýfor Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­and the western Fraser Valley tonight (Jan. 14) and into Wednesday morning.

Flurries are expected continue for the rest of this afternoon as an unstable cold airmass transits across the Lower Mainland. Following this, the forecast calls for periods of heavy snow in the evening.

The heaviest snow willÌýbe overnight and Wednesday morning as the warm front lifts over the region.

Snowfall warning in effect for:

  • Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­- central including the Vancouver, Burnaby and New Westminster
  • Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­- North Shore including West Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­and North Vancouver
  • Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­- northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge
  • Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­- southeast including Surrey and Langley
  • Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­- southwest including Richmond and Delta

Drivers should prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.
