A 35-year-old 鶹ýӳresident who works as a Richmond RCMP officer has been charged with a series of sex offences in connection with incidents that occurred last fall near private schools on the city’s west side.

The 鶹ýӳPolice Department and the B.C. RCMP issued news releases Wednesday that said Andrew James Seangio has been charged with seven counts of an indecent act, three counts of exposing himself to persons under the age of 16 and one count of voyeurism.

Seangio is alleged to have committed the acts in February 2019 while off duty in the west side neighbourhoods home to private schools York House and Little Flower Academy, said Const. Tania Visintin, a VPD media relations officer.

“We had a number of calls starting from November of 2018 of a man driving around in a black vehicle and it took investigators some time to narrow it down,” said Visintin, noting police arrested Seangio Wednesday.

“So it definitely is comforting to the area and to the neighbourhood that someone like this has been taken into custody.”

The officer also faces an internal code of conduct investigation by the Richmond RCMP. Detachment commander Supt. Will Ng said in a news release “the allegations are concerning and are not in keeping with our expectations.”

Seangio has been suspended with pay, with his duty status “subject to continuous review and assessment,” the RCMP news release said. His next appearance in 鶹ýӳProvincial Court is scheduled for April 29.
