Not diggin it
Hey Rantline, I like the weekly feature My Digs. But I was just wondering if we could have a bit more variety. Every week its the same thing: a multi-million dollar home inhabited by rich people who appear to lead carefree lives. Not that I have anything against these folks. Most of them have probably worked very hard to obtain their nice homes and fat bank accounts. But seriously, you do need more variety. How about the digs of a person just out of prison or rehab who is living in a single room on East Hastings or the single mom who, after years of abuse, is making a go of it in BC Housing, or even my poor, unemployed musician friends who are currently sharing a two-bedroom digs between five of them because thats all they can afford. More variety, OK people? Just saying.

City envy?
Hey Portland, its Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»I just want to let you know, well, I really like you, but Im kinda pissed we are compared all the time. I lay awake at night and think of you. So close in distance and head space; but so far and distant at the same time; you are what I want to be! Portland, you make me a better person. You have a street food cart scene that I try to emulate one way to instantly build hipster credits is the ability to buy a taco from a street cart and you guys got that covered 400 street carts! You have cheap, quality beer all over the friggin place, free transit in the downtown core, a massive bookstore and no sales tax. Im happy trying to be like you (copy you). It sure is easier than trying to be myself design my own identity and direction, screw that. I get a little tired of being compared to you all the time, but I still think youre really neat. I think I love you. Wanna grab a coffee or maybe a falafel with organic greens?
Hugs and kisses, Vancouver
Poop patrol
Id like to address a certain dog owner in the West End. This happened a while ago but since then I have been noticing it more and more. I was waiting at the bus stop on Davie and Broughton when I heard a sound of something drop a few feet from me. I turned to my right to find a dog owner just casually drop a small bag of dog droppings on the sidewalk. Now, I know you were nice enough to pick up after your dog, but how about walking the extra few feet to the trash can and deposing of it properly. You had your back turned to me but I looked over and blurted out EWWW!!! but clearly you werent listening. How dare you just drop your dog droppings along the sidewalk for someone else to clean up? If you dont know how to properly take care of the streets and keep them clean, you clearly dont deserve to have a pet of any kind. After this incident happened, I have noticed more and more bags of droppings along the sidewalks, in front of stores, along the curbs, etc. If you think this is funny, please stop it!! You give other dog owners a bad name. And Im noticing these bags of dog droppings along Davie from Broughton to Bute. So please, keep the city clean and dont litter your dog waste on our streets!

The Rickshaw rocks
This is a Rave for The Rickshaw Theatre. To the musicians who play there: thank you for inspiring freedom in us. Thats why we go to hear you. To the staff: thanks to the bouncers for treating us well and for catching us at the edge of the mosh pit when were crowd-surfing so we dont fall and get hurt. Thanks to the kind lady who gives people their beverages and has an awesome sense of style. To all of you who go there: thank you for supporting the artists by buying tickets and merchandise; thank you for supporting the venue by buying refreshments, and thank you for being respectful. Ive never seen anyone being a brazen jerk at the Rickshaw. The thing we love about loud music: we get to release all of our frustration and aggression in a safe and energetic environment. Then we go out in life and are genuinely decent to one another. Im inspired that we exist as a community and I dont understand why our only loud music venue would be denied a liquor licence, and thus be financially shut down. Is it a concern for increased access to liquor? No. Its only open for live shows and only available to those who have purchased a ticket. Its a theatre; its not a bar. Will it contribute to gentrification of the DTES? Not likely. Most of us arrive on the bus. I dont see any limos outside. Would the patrons of this venue be hostile to street people? Doubtful. Some of us have lived on the streets! So what about the issue of public urination? Really? There are large washrooms inside the theatre and no one hangs around long after the doors close. Please lets licence this place and continue to welcome amazing bands from all over the world. I invite you all to take action any respectful, legal action that you can. We are the source of the reality in which we live. Lets own it.

Wear your brain bucket
This is for the guy who wrote about cyclists wearing a helmet to protect their coconut. I totally agree with you I think they should all wear helmets. The thing is their IQ is so low they dont realize how important it is to protect their head. Or they think its cool, which again is part of a low IQ. Or theyre hipsters, with fixed gear bikes and skinny jeans again low IQ thats why they dont wear a helmet.
