A rainfall warning is in effect for Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­as an intense frontal system rapidly approaches the south coast.Ìý

Environment Canada issued the warningÌýearlyÌýin the morning on Wednesday, Jan. 22, noting that rain, at times heavy, is expected. Moderate rain is expected to start midday and become heavy at times later tonight.Ìý

East Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­Island near BowserÌýis expected to see the most rainfall, with the forecast calling forÌý80 to 100 mm of rain before it eases Thursday morning.

The storm is expected to bring up to 80 mm of rain to the Howe Sound, the North Shore and the northeast and central Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­regions. However, the heavy rainfallÌýis expected to ease by midday Thursday.

Rainfall warning in effect for:

  • Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­- central including the City of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­Burnaby and New Westminster
  • Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­- North Shore including West Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­and North Vancouver
  • Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­- northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

After Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­received 34 cm of snowfall in five daysÌýlast week, this week's forecast is callingÌýfor seven straight days of rainfall.
