A 31-year-old man was shot in a reported home invasion in Burnaby early Thursday morning.
Burnaby RCMP were called to the 5500 block of Patterson Avenue at 5:10 a.m. and found the man suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, according to a police press release.
鈥淲hile it is still early in the investigation, it appears that this was not a random act,鈥 Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in the statement. 鈥淥ur teams are working hard to identify the suspect in this investigation, and we鈥檙e asking anyone who may have information that they think could assist in our investigation to contact us.鈥
The victim is known to police, according to Burnaby RCMP, and the shooting appears to have been targeted, but it doesn't appear to have been linked to other violent incidents in Burnaby in January, police said.
Anyone with information about the shooting or dashcam video of Patterson Avenue and Bond Street between 4:45 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Thursday is asked to contact Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.
To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
(This story has been changed. B.C. Emergency Health Services originally told the NOW the shooting victim had been taken to hospital in critical condition. They have since contacted the NOW to say that was an error. The man was taken to hospital in stable condition, a spokesperson said in an email.)
