ICBC: road safety during winter holiday

With the winter holidays here, ICBC is telling drivers to take more caution when driving on the roads. According to ICBC, there are 2,000 crashes resulting in 530 people getting injured in B.C. every year during Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

With the winter holidays here, ICBC is telling drivers to take more caution when driving on the roads.

According to ICBC, there are 2,000 crashes resulting in 530 people getting injured in B.C. every year during Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

The Lower Mainland saw and average of 260 people injured in 810 crashes during Christmas and an average of 470 crashes and 130 people injured during New Years.

Road safety for drivers, ICBC recommends:

  • Check your  vehicle to make sure you have required winter tires, wiper fluid is filled and pack an emergency kit for the car.
  • Slow down to below speed limits in case of wet, icy or snowy roads.
  • Avoid distractions such as using your phone while on the road.
  • Plan a safe ride home if you are thinking of going to parties involving alcohol. Take a taxi, transit or have a designated driver.
