A pro-Hong Kong Facebook group is inviting “netizens” (avid users of the Internet) to identify the political leanings of businesses in Richmond and the Lower Mainland by colour-coding them.

Yellow indicates support for Hong Kong protesters, blue indicates support for Hong Kong police or the Beijing government and green indicates neutrality.

The Canada Hongkonger Facebook group, founded in 2014, posted the list last month with the aim of showing support for local shops that share democratic values and stand with Hong Kong protesters, according to the group’s administrator.

The administrator of the group said they generated the list based on the information provided by group members, and the list will be used as a reference.

The shopping guide has been successful in Hong Kong as a way for Hong Kongers to express their politics, which is why the group wanted to introduce the concept to global citizens. Â
