Vancouver, gird your loins.
This is the caution from the Terminal City Rollergirls on the eve of their fifth annual championship tournament. Faster Pussycats and Public Frenemy meet
in the final and the victor lays claim to the Mercury Shield.
The double-header begins at 6 p.m. (doors 5 p.m.) Saturday, Sept. 10 at Kerrisdale Arena. $20 for adults, $10 for kids, free for children under five.
The citys four flat track roller derby teams have been training hard and knocking each other around all season for this moment to reign supreme.
Undefeated this season, the experienced Faster Pussycats are an intimidating force and a definite favourite to win it all.
Few analysts expected the new expansion team Public Frenemy to go toe-stop to toe-stop with the veterans, but their success is one of the many highlights this season for the self-owned, self-operated roller derby league.
Frenemy surprised Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»roller derby fans by beating last years champions, the Bad Reputations, in the semi-finals on Aug. 28. But given their training, commitment and drive, Frenemy shouldnt be surprised. Rumour is Frenemy wants this. Bad.
The Bad Reputations and Riot Girls will duke it out in the grudge match for third place. This heated rivalry goes back to the beginning of the league and that animosity will be cranked when they meet this weekend.
