Numerous retailers have closed their doors, but one provincial seller is soldiering on... though they are now going to reduce their hours.
B.C. Liquor Stores assured residents around the province earlier this week that they were not closing as rumoured, however the Liquor Distribution Branch revealed Thursday they have made an operational decision to curtail shopping hours.
As of Thursday, all BC Liquor Stores will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and stores that offer Sunday hours will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
In cases where stores closed earlier than the new closure time, they will continue to do so.
Signage will be placed on store entranceways to indicate adjusted store hours, notes the B.C. LDB.
"These changes will allow B.C. Liquor Store staff to complete additional store cleaning in the off hours, to minimize risk to our employees and customers, and help stem the spread of the COVID-19 virus," explains the B.C. LDB in an emailed statement to V.I.A.
"As you may know increased volume of sales and customers, has led to challenges in stocking and restocking shelves. The reduced hours will allow staff to receive and safely stock product and ensure availability for customers as LDB has been experiencing staffing shortages as some staff self-isolate."
Additionally, shoppers should rest assured, shelves will be stocked:Â Â "There is no shortage of products at this time."
Translation: Don't go panic shopping and hoard all the booze.
"Our highest priority is the health and safety of those that are most vulnerable, our employees and customers. To that end we will continue to take whatever steps are necessary and follow the direction of the Provincial Health Officer," adds the B.C. LDB.Â
