Police on patrol in Burnaby seized 118 baggies of crack cocaine, powder cocaine and fentanyl after searching a "suspicious" vehicle earlier this month.

On March 1, at about 8:30 p.m., officers spotted the occupied vehicle in the loading bay area of a closed business complex in the 6500-block of Burlington Avenue.

鈥淲ith businesses being closed, the officer approached the vehicle and observed drug paraphernalia in clear view,鈥 stated a Burnaby RCMP news release Wednesday.

The vehicle鈥檚 three occupants were detained and searched.

One male occupant was found to be carrying the baggies of drugs, according to the release.

Police said the quantity and the method of packaging in the case is usually associated with a street level dial-a-dope drug trafficking operation.

Along with the drugs, police also found a replica handgun and bear spray.

鈥淒isrupting drug traffickers, particularly those who are supplying deadly drugs such as fentanyl to people in our community continues to be a top priority for Burnaby drug section,鈥 Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in the release. 鈥淭hanks to our drug section officer who relied on his instinct and experience, these drugs are no longer on our streets.鈥

No charges have yet been laid in the case, Kalanj said.
