Courier reporter Sandra Thomas has been nominated for a Webster award for best news reporting in print. The nominations for the annual Jack Webster awards, which recognizes the best in B.C. print, broadcast and online journalism, were announced Sept. 6. Thomas received her nomination for her series on Steeves Manor, which examined complaints by seniors and residents with disabilities after new tenants with drug and alcohol addictions, and some with mental illnesses, were moved into the B.C. Housing complex. The Websters are the third awards to recognize Thomas this year. She won a gold award at the Canadian Community Newspaper Awards and a silver at the B.C. and Yukon Ma Murray Awards. The Webster Award winners will be announced at a banquet Oct. 24. The annual awards are named for the legendary print and broadcast journalist Jack Webster, who died in 1999.
