An employee at the Superior Poultry Processors Ltd. mans the gate Thursday with a infrared thermometer in hand.

Fraser Health has closed a Coquitlam chicken-processing plant after two employees tested positive for COVID-19, it was announced Friday.

All employees at Superior Poultry Processors Ltd. have been screened, and case and contact management is ongoing, the health authority said.

Those identified as cases and close contacts have been instructed to self-isolate.

Fraser Health was alerted to potential outbreak after receiving an employee’s positive lab test April 22.

The plant was locked down Thursday as officials investigated.

Employees wearing full protective clothing manned gates at all hours of operation, preventing anyone from entering.

The closure comes after health authorities identified 29 cases at Vancouver’s United Poultry plant.

Superior Poultry serves customers throughout B.C., Western and Central Canada and the U.S.
