With the cold, wet weather expected to continue through the weekend, the city of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»is once again opening additional shelter spaces for the city’s homeless.
In a tweet Friday afternoon, the city said an extreme weather alert will be in place Dec. 20 to 22 due ot forecasted heavy rainfall and temperatures near 0°C.
Extra shelter space will be open at four locations on Saturday and Sunday:
- Â Â Â Directions Youth Services Centre at 1138 Burrard St., for 15 youth (24 year of age and under), open between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.
- Â Â Â Evelyne Saller Centre at 320 Alexander St. is open between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.
- Â Â Â The Salvation Army Belkin House at 555 Homer St. has intake at 11 p.m. and breakfast at 7:30 a.m.
- Â Â Â Walton Hotel Amenity Space at 261-B East Hastings St. is open between 8:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m.
A fifth location, Tenth Church (11 West Tenth Avenue), will be open tonight (Friday) between 10 p.m. and 8:30 a.m.
The city will also have a warming centre open Saturday and Sunday at Powell Street Gateway (528 Powell St.). It will be open between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. and can accommodate every, and accepts pets, bikes and carts. Hot beverages and snacks will also be available.
