AAA senior boys soccer regionals kick off

The 2011 AAA Senior Boys Soccer Zone Championships begins today and Magee is the No. 1 seed. Five Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­public schools, one private school and two Richmond schools advance to the regional tournament and provincial qualifier.

The 2011 AAA Senior Boys Soccer Zone Championships begins today and Magee is the No. 1 seed.

Five Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­public schools, one private school and two Richmond schools advance to the regional tournament and provincial qualifier.

Tied with Kitsilano for the best record of the regular season, the Magee Lions (6-2-2) defeated Point Grey (5-2-3) in the city championships Oct. 27.

Magee and Kits met twice, with the Lions pulling out a 2-1 win before shutting out the Blue Demons 2-0. Magee dropped two regular season games, falling 1-0 to Winston Churchill (2-3-5) and then losing 3-2 to Point Grey in the last meeting of the season before city playoffs.

Magee plays Winston Churchill at 3:30 today at home in the opening round.

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­Technical (2-3-5) travels to Richmond, St. Georges hosts Kitsilano and Point Grey hosts a second Richmond contender. All games kick off at 3:30 p.m.

The second round continues Thursday, Nov. 3.

The championship game will be hosted in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­Tuesday, Nov. 8 at a yet-undetermined location.
