Courier mayoral debate

Got a question for Mayor Gregor Robertson?

Im sure you do.

How about one for NPA mayoral candidate Suzanne Anton?

No doubt at least one comes to mind.

So then, take a few minutes and email me one or two questions you want the Courier to pose to one or both of the mayoral candidates at our Oct. 21 debate.

No candidates or party hacks need apply.

Unlike the 2008 Courier mayoral debate, this one will be closed to the publicbut it will be recorded, edited and posted on our website a few days later for your viewing pleasure.

Well also have a member of our staff on hand live Tweeting the one-hour debate, which will be moderated by Courier editor Barry Link, who will pose the readers questions to the candidates.

Ill be asking all the other questions.

The debate is next Friday, so get busy and send me some questions.

And pleasekeep them clean.

Candidate call

If you plan to take on Gregor Robertson in this campaign, Friday, Oct. 14, is the deadline for candidates to file nomination documents at city hall.

You have until 4 p.m.

But phone the election office first (604-829-2010) to make an appointment for filing. Candidate information packages can be downloaded on the citys website or at the election office, 450 West Broadway.

Candidates must be 18 or older, a Canadian citizen and must have been a resident of B.C. for at least six months. A $100 nomination deposit is also required from each candidate in the form of cash, certified cheque or bank draft.

So if youre still thinking about taking a run at the mayors chair or city council, park board or school board, remember you must be nominated by at least 25 eligible voters.

As of Wednesday, the election office received six nominations for mayor, including Robertson and Anton. The others are Menard Caissy, Robin Lawrance, Gerry McGuire and Darrell Zimmerman. Another 20 had filed for council, 12 for school trustee and 13 for park board commissioner.

Hello Joe

Joe Carangi, who describes himself as a lawyer, community organizer and problem solver, is one of the council candidates.

Hes running with the NPA.

I singled him out because of the release he sent me the other day.

How can I not give a guy a little bit of ink when he invites me in bold letters to celebrate Joe Carangis 100,000th pedestrian who has seen him mainstreeting. That major event in Carangis campaign occurred Thursday and, sadly, I couldnt make it.

Carangi says hes been campaigning at Georgia and Burrard for almost five months, holding a sign that says Vote Joe Carangi.

The pedestrians at the corner have reacted very favourably to his candidacy, said Carangis release. It is estimated that thus far nearly 100,000 people have seen Joe mainstreeting at the corner of Georgia and Burrard. Joe has also visited over 3,500 homes thus far as well. Many thanks.

No Joe, thank you.
