What to get the woman who has everything? For Mothers Day, get her something she already has, but from a whole new perspective.
The Soap Dispensary refill store at 3623 Main Street offers an incredible array of eco-friendly toiletries, beauty care and home cleaning products. The shelves are bursting with delightful treasures such as mason jars of soap nuts, wool dryer balls, biodegradable Swedish dish cloths (pictured below), Miswak teeth cleaning twigs, compostable bamboo toothbrushes and, perhaps most unusual, tooth soap made primarily from olive oil. I picked up the tooth soap on Sunday and after adjusting to the new texture and taste, have happily replaced my paste.
The main goal of The Soap Dispensary is to reduce our plastic footprints by selling household and personal care products without adding plastic containers to landfills and waterways. The list of refillable products is surprising and extensive () and you can bring your own containers or pay a small fee to start with one of theirs.
Store owners Linh and Stewart have carefully selected their stock to cause the least amount of impact on human and environmental health. Their philosophy is that soaps and cleaners do not need harsh chemicals to get the job done; fillers, dyes and synthetic perfumes are also eschewed in favour of dye-free and scent-free options that are ideal for those who have sensitivities or allergies. Many of the products are concentrated as well, which reduces the amount of soap needed and the associated costs. Their products are biodegradable, animal cruelty-free (some are even vegan certified) and are proudly made in Canada.
Featured lines include Soap Exchange, Live for Tomorrow, Nature Clean, Dr. Bonners, The Environmental Toothbrush, Juniper Ridge and Eaternal Soapnuts. Best of all, walking away with a new green routine or present for mom doesnt have to be expensive.
