GREAT DANE: One of the fastest growing companies in Denmark and largest fashion jewelry labels in Scandinavia, Dansk Smykkekunst () is now available in Vancouver. The 40-year-old, family-owned company whose name literally translates to Danish Jewelry Art is the latest in a long line of modern wares imported by lifelong fashionphile Seéve Sandberg, former owner of the now-shuttered Dyrberg/Kern store on South Granville. Devotees of Dyberg/Kerns contemporary lines and leather-and-metal construction will no doubt welcome Smykkekunsts similar aesthetic (above). Theyll also enjoy the lower price points with rings starting at $35 and necklaces at $40. Available at Edward Chapman Circa/Ici (2596 Granville, 604-732-3394, ECWoman.com) and Phoenix in the Park Royal Mall (2030 Park Royal South, West Van, 604-925-1660).
DOWNWARD DOG STYLE: Vancouvers not-so-recent anointing as the third-worst-dressed city in the world came about not from some citizens peculiar penchant for wearing shorts year-round or pairing Teva sandals with white tube socks. No, our sartorial sin was the invention and proliferation of the dreaded yoga pant. But a new line called Blissology may help change the worlds perception of our crimes against fashion. The 10-piece, army-inspired capsule collection is a collaboration between Blissology Yoga originators Eoin and Insiya Finn and yoga wear giant Lululemon whose head designer, Maneli Nourbakhsh hails from the design team at Alexander McQueen. In addition to asymmetrical tops (bottom left) and a reworked yoga pant (bottom right), the line includes outerwear that can go straight from the studio to the street. A mens water resistant jacket (top) boasts reflectors and a removable hood, while the womens version (bottom) features a unique double pocket with draping and ruching details. Available exclusively at (511 W. Broadway, 604-708-1126).
