In 1945, one of the largest sharks on record was captured in Cuban waters — a great white nicknamed “El Monstruo.”

Since then, sightings of massive sharks have been frequent in Cuban waters, but the island nation has always been restricted from outsider interference — until now. The Discovery Channel’s Cuba’s Secret Shark Lair, which features a team of researchers searching for another El Monstruo to the north of the island and another looking for a massive great hammerhead known as the “Queen” to the south, is just one of the programs the Discovery Channel is airing during the always popular Shark Week series, which this year runs July 22 to 29.

Other celebrities getting wet and wild this year include MMA star and wrestler Ronda Rousey (Uncaged: Shark vs. Rhonda Rousey), Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the Food Network’s Guy Fieri (Guy Fieri’s Feed Frenzy), gold medal Olympian Lindsey Vonn and New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski.
