Hmmm... we wonder what the audience at the Rio Theatre will be drinking on Thursday night when owner Corinne Lea celebrates her long battle to be allowed to serve alcohol by showcasing Strange Brew and Slapshot.

"The Rio Theatre is thrilled to announce that we just received the final approval for our application to allow liquor service during a film or broadcast in our theatre." Lea says in a press release. "We would like to thank our liquor consultant, Bert Hicks and his staff at Rising Tide as well as the staff at the City of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»and the BC Liquor Control and Licensing Branch for making this happen as quickly as possible."

As a community venue, The Rio plans to continue to host all-ages and family film screenings and live events without bar service. It will make our licensed 19+ events very clear, so there is no confusion.

On May 24 it raises a glass to perseverance and Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Craft Beer Week with Strange Brew at 7 pm + Slap Shot at 9 pm, as well as DJ Teddy Smooth from CabaRadio rockin out classic rock tunes Bob and Doug Mckenzie style. And yes, craft beer will be served.
