Take a bite out of this.
Richmond-based Cavu Kitchen Bar has been named the winner of this year’s 鶹ýӳcompetition, scoring top votes for its latest innovation — a juicy, 100-per-cent beef patty between two hand-breaded slabs of mac ‘n’ cheese.
Le Burger Week ran in Metro 鶹ýӳfrom Sept. 1 to Sept. 7. The annual event launched in 2012, and since 2017 — when the fest expanded — has fed burger lovers across Canada.
Some of CAVU’s competition included burgers from Bells and Whistles, Bin 4 Burger Lounge and Fable Diner in Vancouver, and The Canadian Brewhouse in Richmond. 200,000 burger lovers voted for their favourite online.
Cavu’s $19 Le Big Mac N Cheese burger was created by chef Alex Hancock, who decided to combine the two classic foods.
“Who doesn’t love mac ‘n’ cheese? Who doesn’t love a burger? Who wouldn’t love a burger where the mac ‘n’ cheese is the bun?” said Hancock.
The burger features a grilled beef patty and plenty of cheese, with layers of Canadian Armstrong cheddar and Swiss Raclette, and is finished off with Applewood smoked bacon and tangy ketchup. And don’t forget that side of fries.
Le Big Mac N Cheese is available until Sept. 30 at Cavu, located at 5911 Minoru Boulevard.
