What it is: The Slighly is a two-storey, detached house floating in Coal Harbour.
Price: $750,000.
Square feet: 1160, plus three decks, which includes the entire roof.
Occupants: Anthony Tucker, recently retired from psychiatric assessment at Childrens Hospital, and Doug McClelland, wine consultant at Marquis Wine Cellars.
Major selling feature: Its the ultimate waterfront home. Everyone in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»wants a view, but we live in the middle of the view the North Shore Mountains on one side, Stanley Park and the City skyline on the others.
First thing we changed: Weve just completed building it from scratch. Working with our architect we have designed the perfect house.
Features we brag about: Location, location, location. Its a brand new detached house in the wonderful Coal Harbour neighbourhood. The views are amazing. The neighbours are the rich and famous who moor their yachts around us. Its really quiet and peaceful on the water. Yet just up the hill is the city and all its amenities.
That one conversation piece: It moves. There is a slight motion from floating that keeps you aware of your connection to the environment.
The décor: Everything is brand new with sort of a reserved-yet-modern look. We worked with a fabulous decorator, Tracy Mills from Dekora, the top decorating company in Vancouver. The main floor has an open plan living-dining-kitchen space. There are white granite countertops and stainless steel appliances in the kitchen. It has a gorgeous marble master bath, with a huge, rain shower. The separate office has porthole windows to pick up the nautical theme. The master bedroom is all glass with a balcony off it.
Story behind the art: Much of the wall art has a nautical flavour. However my two favourites are the big bowl of sea shells we collected on a South African beach on the Indian Ocean and the decanter of fine sand we scooped up from the Egyptian desert across the Nile from Aswan. We tend to drag home all sorts of things from our travels
Downsides: It can seem a long walk down the dock on a cold rainy night. The occasional visitor who feels sea sick can also be a problem
Neighbourhood haunts: The Mill restaurant in Harbour Green Park is a great hangout for a beer or a meal, and the owner is our buddy Daniel Frankel. Café Artigiano on Pender is the place to go for a great coffee.
Compared to my last place... We lived for 22 years on our previous floating home at the same location. [It tipped over and was partially submerged in a freak storm on Christmas Day, 2008 Ed.] Our new house is a bigger, brand-new version of the old house. When you live someplace a long time, you build up a list of changes you wish you could make a second bathroom, a separate office, more glass. We got to incorporate our wish list into this great new house.
Most recent home purchase: A new rainbow flag for the flag mast.
Favourite home activity: Enjoying a glass of wine with friends either on our roof deck, or onboard one of our neighbours boats.
