Maybe it’s just me, but I’m not a big fan of pineapple juice or coconut milk. But put them together in a piña colada? Ambrosia. Something about the acidic tropical bite of pineapple and the nutty creaminess of coconut makes this pairing greater than the sum of its parts.

Coconut and pineapple take centre stage in Superflux’s latest release, Coconuts IPA. At first glance, this murky, juicy haze bomb is indistinguishable from fruit juice. Classic Superflux. The body has an almost pulpy consistency, so thick it’s borderline chewy.

Brewed with Citra and Vic Secret hops and conditioned on a “voluptuous bed” of coconut, this beer has all the requisite piña colada notes to make you temporarily forget that you’ve only seen the sun five times since October.

Despite the initial sweetness, there’s noticeable hop bitterness on the back end that helps clean up the finish, preventing it from being too cloying. This amount of tropical goodness seems out of place in the middle of a B.C. winter, but it’s a whole lot cheaper than a week in Cancún.
