As lifestyle editor at the Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół»Courier, I’m lucky that during the year some really great gifts land on my desk, including some really beautiful cookbooks.
And while I try and write about some of these items, I can’t always get to all of them in a timely manner — my apologies.
But, I will attempt to make up for that now by not only writing about some of these items, but by also giving them away to someone who will either appreciate them or pass them on as a gift to someone else who will enjoy them.
The next prize I’m featuring is yet another new buzz-worthy cookbook, this time by local scribe, foodie and spirits specialist who met with this city’s best chefs to compile , a collection of recipes from 45 restaurants.
Joanne is the editor of Westcoast Homes & Design, the and magazines, and covers food, drink, travel and other topics for a variety of other publications including the Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół»Sun, WestJet Magazine and Destination British Columbia. Certified by the Wine and Spirits Education Trust, she has a specialization in cocktails, spirits and wine, and writes about them for anyone who will pay her.Ěý
Joanne is also the author of the books Paprika: A Spicy Memoir from Hungary (2006), Frommer’s EasyGuide to Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół»& Victoria (2015), The Wickaninnish Cookbook: Rustic Elegance on Nature’s Edge (2018), and Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół»Eats (2018).
With recipes for salads (Fable's Heirloom Tomato Salad with Burrata), soups (Tacofino's tortilla soup), brunch (Cafe Medina's fricassee champignons), mains (David Hawksworth's cherry tomato, olive and arugula pizza), desserts (Thomas Haas's hazelnut praline Ă©clair), and cocktails (the Botanist's Appleseed cocktail), this inspired anthology boasts a collection of original and innovative dishes by chefs who've put Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół»on the culinary map.
It even includes a few notable restaurants from Whistler. And best of all, the recipes have been designed with home cooks in mind.
Beautifully illustrated by award-winning photographer , Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół»Eats is the perfect book for those who want to recreate their favourite dining experiences in their own home.
And I’m making it easy to enter. You don’t have to “follow” me or fill out a form or sign up for a newsletter. All you have to do is email me at [email protected] with the name of the prize in the subject line and we’ll hold a random draw next week. You also have to be able to pick the book up from the Courier office on West Fifth Avenue — it’s that simple. Ěý
The first gift I gave away was new cookbook that’s been garnering a lot of buzz recently called by the Food Gays. Congratulations Kimberly Borthwick.
