The ladies of House Wine ware gearing up to make our holiday season enjoyable, specifically in the booze department. Theyll be introducing and pouring inexpensive party wines, revealing several perfect gift bottles for those who are hard to buy for, and giving their recommendations for holiday meals on December 7 (6-8pm) at ODouls Vintage Gallery. Tickets are $40 (includes HST) and can be purchased by calling 604-780-4788 (HouseWine.ca).

If youre interested in blowing some of your Christmas funds on yourself, consider the upcoming Barolo supper at the award-winning Cibo Trattoria. On Saturday, December 3 , Chef Neil Taylor will be pairing seven courses with seven vintages from Vietti producer Luca Corrado. Bonus: Corrado himself will be on hand to guide diners through his distinctive Piemonte wines. The cost per seat is $250. Bookings can be made by calling the restaurant at 604-602-9570.

French and Asian influences can be found on the menu of Caché Bistro and Lounge, Yaletowns newest restaurant. Chef Alex Muks training in French cuisine is very apparent in some of the brunch offerings foie gras Benedict and honey glazed duck confit on warm lentil salad as well as the foie gras crème brûlée with Flying Fish caviar on the tapas side.Items that have a strong Asian/Chinese inspiration include lotus chips with chipotle mayo, saffron infused duck confit salad roll and shrimp mousse lollipops. If you have trouble making up your mind, Caché has a seven-course tasting menu, created that day, and available by reservation Sunday to Wednesday evenings. Caché Bistro opens Dec. 1 in the former Charm location (1269 Hamilton, 604-558-1269.)

Word has it that the DTESs popular, Caribbean-themed Calabash has a Christmas surprise in store for Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»foodies. Famed for their dark and spicy jerk chicken, theyre planning on augmenting their menu this Yule by jerking turkey and serving it up with spiced cranberry chutney. Keep an eye (and a nose) out at 428 Carrall off Hastings as Christmas approaches.
