Crescendos pour-your-own-oil-and-vinegar concept has . Shelley Nicholl has opened one of the first Canadian franchises in Canada. At her South Granville store, she has 24 oils and 21 vinegars on tap, as well as 60 different spices from the latest harvest. So for all the chefs who want to experiment with mango balsam vinegar (made from real mangos, not just mango infused) and Styrian pumpkin seed oil, this place is for you. Experimenting with different flavours is easy because customers choose the size of bottle they want and the bottles are filled on site, with hand-written labels. The parent company, Vom Fass, is in Germany. Vancouvers Crescendo is at 3030 Granville between 14th and 15th.

Forget the 100-mile diet. Senga Lindsay will help you follow a 100-metre diet. The award-winning Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»landscape architect is launching her debut book, at on June 9. For her, size doesnt matter. She is as considerate of the condo owner who has a windowsill garden as she is of the homeowner who wants to grow more of her food. Harbour Publishing says Edible Landscaping includes advice on the most resilient and rewarding edible plants, and detailed plans for 15 types of urban gardens, from green roofs to childrens gardens to hanging containers. These plans cover everything from design elements to planting tips. The June 9 book signing is from 1 to 3pm and offers complimentary snacks and beverages. Fundraising breakfast
Friends help friends, right? Well, on June 10, is doing its part to support the . A fixed breakfast menu for $15 will be offered as the Gastown café cheers on summers arrival and raises money for the non-profit society dedicated to supporting the health and wellbeing of queer women and their friends in the BC community. Shark fin soup ban
Want to help convince Chinese restaurants in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»to remove shark fin soup from their menus? Shark Truth invites everyone to a Jammin Shark Boat Party evening cruise across English Bay with DJ Tank Gyal. There will be banging beats, Caribbean treats, and a silent auction with jammin prizes. H Blend
David Hawksworth has an eponymous and now he has an eponymous wine or at least an abbreviated version. The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»restaurant is adding Hs Blend to its wine list. Made with the guidance of Orofino Winerys John Weber and the restaurants sommelier, Terry Threlfall, the red is 100 per cent Gamay from two separate vineyards and the white is half Pinot Gris, half Riesling. They sell for $11 per glass and $55 per bottle.

For the month of June, the following restaurants will add one dollar to the price of a specially marked menu item to support Eat.Give.Grow fundraiser. Big Ridge Brewing Company (Surrey),Bishops, Campagnolo, Campagnolo Roma, Centi Notti, Chambar, Dockside Restaurant, Edible Canada on Granville Island, Fat Dragon, La Ghianda, Les Faux Bourgeois, Mangia e Bevi, Pourhouse Restaurant, Provence Mediterranean Grill, Provence Marinaside, Tableau Bar Bistro, Trafalgars , Wild Rice (both Downtown and New Westminster) and Yaletown Brewing Company. Last year those individual Loonies added up to almost $7,000 that went to funding Growing Chefs school-based programs.
