Fitness myths are all around us: As seen on TV, as read in magazines or as heard in gyms across North America. Well, Ive heard enough. Its time to bust three of the most common myths.

1. Its impossible to get a great workout in less than one hour
It is very possible to get a great workout in less than an hour. Keys to this are to focus on multi-joint movements like, for instance, step-ups, lunges or squats and stop wasting time on single body parts (biceps curls, for example). Also be sure to combine resistance training with cardio during the workout.

2. A person needs to specifically perform ab crunches in order to get a six pack
Firstly, no matter how many crunches you do, youre not going to design that dream stomach. It takes a lean diet and regular fitness regimen that focuses on more than one body part coupled with cardio work. You can make your abs stronger with crunches, but it takes much more to really make them pop.

3. You need fancy equipment for a good workout
No equipment? No problem. Body weight exercises work. Try pushups, pull-up and sit-ups. Also, most of those machines in the gym are not the best for your body in the long run. They limit range of motion and eventually can distort your figure.
