There’s going to be a new all-day cafe soon in Chinatown, and it’s a project from the same time behind Gastown’s .
Called Hunnybee Bruncheonette, this brunch café concept will be open for daytime hours, and will have a breakfast-lunch menu focused on scratch-made goods from local sources.
While details are scant at the moment (and we’ve reached out to the Birds and the Beets to get more info), we do know they will continue their work of doing in-house baking, pickling, preserving and the like, and will be getting their produce and other ingredients from well-known local farms such as UBC and Cropthorne.
Birds and the Beets is known for their boho chic aesthetic (there’s a floral stand inside their Gastown cafe), simple menu of salads, sandwiches, avocado toast, pastries and healthy breakfasts, as well as their coffee and tea selection and kombucha on tap.
Chinatown is getting infused with more and more fresh spots for food and drink, particularly those with a healthy/plant-based bent. While there are some great coffee spots and restaurants serving lunch, there aren’t too many options for breakfast fare in the neighbourhood (though and has terrific food and drink), making this a welcome addition for locals.
Hunnybee Bruncheonette is in the hiring process, and could be heading towards opening later this summer. We’ll update with more info when we can.
