Remember when the height of sophistication was serving an after-dinner mint unwrapping the foil cover and biting into the sweet and gooey chocolate-covered mint wafer?

The pays homage to that nostalgic sophistication by wrapping its new club within its existing one.

The After Dinner Mint is East Vans newest dinner, music and dance club. The weekly Thursday night musical showcase has been created by local bodyworker Lisa Bustin and musician Joy Mullen, both longtime servers at Cory Weeds Jazz Cellar. Every night we see amazing music at work, and we wanted to bring that energy and excitement to East Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»and make these groups accessible to people. We also wanted to create a space where people can enjoy good quality food at an affordable price and experience musical styles they might not normally see, Bustin says.

One night you might listen to jazz manouche. The next Thursday it could be big band, or flamenco, or rockabilly or swing or Balkan music. It's an eclectic mix for an hotel that's made being eclectic its signature.

The shows will be in the hotel's newly renovated Nuba Café. Nubas menu serves wholesome Lebanese food with a focus on respecting the environment and supporting community food producers with locally sourced organic meats, fair trade organic coffee, freshly squeezed juices and an array of fun cocktails.

The weekly celebration of nostalgic sounds opens May 10 with Van Django, an early 1930s Romani Jazz group that derives their sound from Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappellis innovative sounds.

Doors open on May 10 at 8pm and the show starts at 9. Admission is $10.
