There will be no shortage of friendly competition at this year’s Sun Festival:
Slo-pitch tournament
The slo-pitch tournament consists of 20 teams and runs for three days at the Winskill Park diamonds.
Following round robin play on Saturday and Sunday, the top three teams from divisions one and two and the top two teams from division three will play-off in the trophy round with prizes, trophies and beer awarded following the playoffs on Monday afternoon.
Action runs from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day.
Volleyball tournament
The on-grass tournament is co-ed and open to players ages 16 and up. Full teams and individuals are welcome.
There will be tons of prizes to be won at the event, which runs at Winskill Park (northeast corner) on Saturday, Aug. 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Skateboard competition
Come and get your skate on at the South Delta Recreation Centre Skate Park. The competition runs from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4.
Everyone is welcome to come out and compete or just support the competitors.
Hippie Mike once again hosts the competition. Categories include mini (under 10), beginner, intermediate, advanced and girls. Registration starts at 11:30 a.m. It’s $5 to enter or participants can donate two food items, which will be donated to the food bank.
Lawn bowling tournament
The Tsawwassen Lawn Bowling Club hosts its second annual Sun Fest mixed triples tournament with clubs from Richmond, White Rock, Langley, New Westminster, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»and Ladner taking part. In all, 16 teams of three bowlers will compete for $600 in prizes.
The tournament runs on Sunday, Aug. 5 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the club, which is located at the north end of Winskill Park.
