Two Simon Fraser University students are in the running for this year’s Lind Prize.
The Philip B. Lind Emerging Artist Prize, established in 2016, is awarded annually to an artist enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s of fine arts program in B.C., working in the mediums of film, photography or video.
Nine finalists have been announced for this year’s prize, representing SFU, the University of British Columbia, the University of Victoria and Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Among them are SFU students Krystle Coughlin and Graeme Wahn. The other finalists are Noah Friebel, Laura Gildner, Christopher Lacroix, Ramey Newell, Lola Storey, Theo Terry and Matthew Wong.
The winner will be announced in an awards event on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Polygon Gallery, 101 Carrie Cates Ct. in North Vancouver.
They were selected by a jury made up of Nina Bozicnik, associate curator of Seattle’s Henry Art Gallery; Amy Kazymerchyk, curator of the Audain Gallery in Vancouver; and Ian Wallace, a Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»artist. The jury will reconvene on the day of the award to choose the winner. The winner earns a $5,000 award to be put towards a new commissioned work that will be featured at the Polygon Gallery in 2019.
On Friday, Sept. 21 at 3 p.m., Lind Prize finalists and jurors will return to the exhibition for The Crit - where shortlisted artists will discuss their work in conversation with peers, jurors and members of the public.
