A local ballerina is coming home for a weekend, performing a starring role in Royal Winnipeg Ballets Vancouvers premier of at the Performing Arts Centre April 20 to 22.
Langleys Sophia Lee, who will play Svengalis First, is one of the RWBs fastest rising talents.
Svengali is created by Mark Godden, the same choreographer who made the companys hugely successfulDracula. The story is adapted from the novelTrilbyby George du Maurier. Svengali uses his hypnotic powers to turn a young woman, Trilby, into the most celebrated ballerina in 1930s Germany. A struggle for power ensues as Trilbys star rises and she begins to resist his control.
Svengali is at 8pm on April 20 and 21 and 2pm on April 22 at The Centre in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»for Performing Arts. Tickets range from $32.50 to $89.50 and are available at or 1-855-985-2787.
The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Academy of Music String Quartet will perform a beautiful selection of classical music in the lobby on opening night.
Audience members will be treated to music from Debussy, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Mozart, and more.
