When Trevor Trouble Andrew arrives a bit behind schedule at the Commodore Ballroom, he is looking a little weary.
Sorry Im late, man, he says, lifting his sunglasses to rub his eyes. Theres a lot going on right now. Im ready for tonights show though.
The Nova Scotia native and former Whistler resident could not have understated this fact more. In addition to a career as a hip hop artist, he is designing a line of eyewear with Electric sunglasses, a clothing line with Analog, has a creative role with Nixon Watches, is running a music label called Trouble Gang Records and is the brand ambassador for Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»footwear company Native Shoes.
Andrew is a veritable artist, open to anything that helps feed his never-ending appetite to create and express just as long as it is honest.
I have my hands in so many creative things right now, its a lot, he says. But thats just what makes me tick. Its about taking nothing and making something. Its a challenge finding the time to do it all.
The former pro snowboarder is currently residing in Brooklyn with his wife (recording artist Santi White, a.k.a. Santigold who he was in town to perform with May 26) but has a home in Squamish as well. While he loves the intensity of Brooklyn, Andrew says the abundant natural space and leisurely pace of BC balance out the high-speed flurry of his New York life.
Vancouvers obviously one of the most beautiful cities in the world, but its also the art and the creative life that lives here thats really strong and I love, it he says. Just being surrounded by the mountains make me feel at home I spent so much time around them.
When asked about Vancouvers declining fashion reputation for its yoga-influenced style, Andrew laughs.
I never heard about that, he says. I think this city has great style. And I like that comfortable look.
And I love all the tights, he adds with a smile. Just not on me.
